Sunday 21 June 2009
L-3 Communications and Cosworth announced on 15 June 2009 an agreement whereby L-3 will re-purpose into the North American aerospace and defence markets electronic telemetry and control technology derived from systems originally developed for Cosworth's motorsport activities. In particular, advanced data collection and system control technology for use in UAV/UAS platforms.
Marc Lienard, President of L-3 Telemetry-East, said: "The same devices that monitor engine health, control gear boxes, and power fuel pumps in performance cars are ideally suited to similar functions in UAV/UAS platforms."
Tim Routsis, CEO Cosworth Group, added: "We cannot imagine a better partner in the North American aerospace market than L-3.... We have found that airframers, system integrators, and flight training organizations are intently interested in this equipment's ability to monitor air vehicle subsystems and autonomously make real-time adjustments......."
As a result of this agreement L-3 Communications is now offering a variety of Cosworth-developed electronic technologies into the North American aerospace market under the L-3 label. The equipment is supported by L-3's customer service department and backed by Cosworth's field engineering activity.
To Tim Routsis, Group CEO, and to George Lendrum, Cosworth Electronics CEO, and all their team at Huntingdon and Cambridge, we offer our heartiest congratulations as they continue to leverage the Group's unique combination of advanced technologies and engineering expertise to the benefit of a diverse range of global industries including aerospace, defence, marine and energy generation.
