We are pleased to announce that Dr Michael Smith has successfully completed his triennial re-certification as a Certified Management Consultant (CMC), the only internationally recognised qualification of its kind in the world. The CMC is accredited by the International Council of Management Consulting Institutes, and is achieved by completing a competency-based assessment process - which includes case studies, client references and continuous professional development - applied by experienced assessors who determine the consultant's skills, knowledge and behaviours against a series of rigorous standards.

Griffonage have been asked by the CEO of Marshall Land Systems (MLS), Peter Callaghan, to coach a member of his top team. Headquartered in Cambridge, MLS provide integrated and through-life capability management for both military & civil vehicles. Griffonage were asked to undertake this assignment because of their long track record in the Aerospace & Defence markets.

Stress tops list of long-term absence

Stress is now the number one cause of long-term sickness absence as employees struggle with heavy workloads and job loss worries, research from the CIPD has shown. Their absence management survey shows that stress has taken over from musculoskeletal problems as the top cause of absence for both manual and non-manual workers. Some 39% of employers say that absence due to mental health problems has gone up in the last year.

Coaching and mentoring are being used more than ever to improve performance

Coaching and mentoring are being used more than ever to improve performance according to the CIPD's 2011 Coaching climate survey report. The overall picture from the survey suggests that coaching is in good health, and of those who already use coaching, nearly 84% are using it more now than they were two years ago, and 70% report that coaching expenditure is either increasing or stable.
